The Dead Centre of Finchley

This is the story of how the inner London Parishes of Victorian London came to East Finchley and opened the first municipal cemeteries in the country. How, during the second half of the 19th century London reimagined burial from a macabre health problem of grossly overcrowded inner city graveyards, into the oasis of green cemeteries we see today. Followed by a Q&A session with the film maker Barnet’s Heritage Officer Hugh Petrie.PT1H30MPG2024-06-30
