Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry

1hr 31min.

USA 2012. Directed by Alison Klayman. With Ai Weiwei, Danqing Chen, Ying Gao.
In English and Mandarin with English subtitles.

One of the most fascinating artists of our time, Ai was taken into police custody following his criticism of the Chinese government over the death of 5,000 students in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. This act of defiance raised his profile from a cult figure into a key figurehead for the pro-democracy movement and he has turned activism into an art form, creating digital, installation and performance art from the repressed details of the tragedy. Klayman’s portrait was filmed as Ai prepared for the Sunflower Seeds installation at the Tate Modern, giving a unique and essential insight into his art as well as his campaigning.
