Nominated for six Golden Globes, this new film from Jason Reitman (Thank You for Smoking, Juno) depicts the timely odyssey of Ryan Bingham (Clooney), a corporate downsizer and consummate modern business traveler who, after years of staying happily airborne, finds himself grounded with an upstart efficiency expert (Kendrick). Suddenly he is faced with the terrifying and exhilarating prospect of making a personal connection rather than a connecting flight. Ryan is a charming decent man who has enthusiastically embraced the world of speed, technology, comfort, individual ambition and material perks. However, he has reached his mid-forties without forming any personal attachments and with a job that is quite literally ‘letting people go’. He thought he had it all but finds something vital is missing. When he falls for a simpatico fellow traveller (Farmiga), Ryan begins to contemplate what it might actually mean to have a home.
