Sin Nombre
From Friday 14th August to Thursday 27th August | book tickets

1hr 36. Mexico/USA 2009. Directed by Cary Fukunaga. With Paulina Gaitan, Kristian Ferrer, Edgar Flores. In Spanish with English subtitles.
Seeking the promise of America, a young Honduran girl, Sayra (Gaitan), joins her father and uncle on an odyssey to cross the gauntlet of the Latin American countryside en route to the United States. Along the way she crosses paths with teenage Mexican gang member, El Casper (Flores), who is manoeuvring to outrun his violent past and elude his unforgiving former associates. Together they must rely on faith, trust and street smarts if they are to survive their increasingly perilous journey towards the hope of new lives. This is a breathless and uncompromising account of the desperate fight for survival from first time director Cary Fukunaga.
‘This astonishing debut feature announces the arrival of a lavishly gifted filmmaker. The subject is immigration, the language is Spanish – with good English subtitles – the scope is epic and the achievement, though solidly grounded in conventional storytelling, is a revelation.’ The Wall Street Journal
‘A fascinating fusion of road movie, gangster epic and tragic love story … utterly engrossing … one of the must-see foreign language titles of the year.’ Little White Lies
