2hrs 28.  USA 2007.  Directed by Sean Penn. With Emile Hirsch and William Hurt.

An example of American auteur cinema at its finest, the latest directorial effort from Penn is adapted from John Krakauer's bestselling book. It tells the real-life story of Christopher McCandless, who at the age of 22 walked out of his privileged life in search of adventure, giving away his savings and abandoning his possessions. On his journey through America leading north to Alaska, McCandless (Hirsch) encountered a series of fascinating characters who shaped his understanding of life, and whose lives he, in turn, changed.
