1hr 40. UK 1947. Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. With Deborah Kerr.

A group of Anglican nuns, led by the stern Sister Clodagh (Kerr), attempt to establish a convent in a remote region of the Himalayas but things start to go wrong almost immediately: their building is a former harem, the locals are drawn into a rising hysteria, and Sister Ruth (Kathleen Byron) conceives a passion for a brusque Englishman who has a penchant for shorts. Showcasing Powell and Pressburger at their boldest, Black Narcissus features brilliant performances, Oscar-winning cinematography and wonderfully atmospheric set design. This is a deeply sensual film, almost giddily in thrall to the power of cinema.
