Keep it cool

When the cinema re-opens we will have air-conditioning.  That may not sound like such a big statement, but actually until last week we couldn’t say that with any certainty.  We’d always planned to have it, we’re aware of the demand from the public for it and we would be falling behind other cinemas without it.  However we also have a duty to manage a complicated expensive capital build as carefully as we can.  Part of this involves being aware of the potential risks on the project and working to reduce those risks. Therefore we’ve been using a standard project management method of running a reserve list.  This list consists of items that we intend to do, but we don’t instruct the builders to proceed with them until we are satisfied that no unexpected items are going to pop up and cost us money that we want to spend on these list items.

The air cooing units were on that list and at our monthly Trustee Capital Works meeting last week we instructed the units to be fitted.  We’re satisfied so far with how the work is progressing, though as our project manager pointed out; past performance is no indication of future performance.

We were always fitting new air-handling units, you can see these in the previous photoblog.  These units alone would have dramatically improved the air flow through the auditorium, but now we can bolt on the coolers to the end of the units thus regulating the temperature in the cinema.

We now have only a couple of items left on our reserve list and if the project keeps going on its current trajectory those items will be instructed by the end of July.

For now we’re delighted to have full air-conditioning, something we’ve never had before.  It’s all part of bringing you the best cinema we can.
