Avi Rubinstein of East Finchley has won a national competition at the Unicorn Theatre, sponsored by the FT, with a photo of ‘his London’. As he lives a few streets away from the Phoenix, he chose that as his subject and came first in the 6-9 year old category.
Avi had to write a line about why he chose the Phoenix as his image for London and he cited that it was the oldest working cinema in London and is close to his house so he likes to watch films there!
He won tickets for the family to a show, a digital camera and his art is exhibited at the Unicorn until mid-August alongside the winners in the three other age categories.
Judge Will Gompertz, BBC News Arts Editor, commented, “I was struck by the composition of the dividing line”.
Below is a picture of Avi at the exhibition. The Phoenix congratulates Avi on his achievement and his excellent taste in cinema!
