Education Officer Vacancy

We are looking for an imaginative, passionate, experienced Education Officer to continue the development of this integral department within the cinema. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, of which some may be out of office hours in order to meet with community and voluntary groups. Job share will be considered. This position is for 12 months with renewal subject to funding.

Salary £20,000.

Prepare to meet some punk snails, opera singing mice and a big toothy swamp monster as Canadian puppeteer Jeff Achtem creates a shadow puppet universe from bits of rubbish! Features an amazing 3D finale.
Some scenes will be a bit scary for viewers under 7 years.

Touring exhibition at Muswell Hill Library

The Phoenix’s touring exhibition ‘The Phoenix: 100 Years’ is currently at Muswell Hill Library until Friday 1 June. If you are passing by do take a look at it and tell us about your memories of coming to The Phoenix.

This will be the exhibition’s last stop so if you’ve still not managed to see it, make sure you don’t miss out.

This exhibition is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Met 2012-13 Season

The next season of Met operas are now on sale to the general public and Sunday encore screenings are also on sale.

Please note: at this time there are no Sunday encores for The Tempest, Les Troyens or Francesca di Rimini. There are still tickets available for the live Saturday screenings of all three performances and Sunday encores will be added if those performances fill up.

The Phoenix website has a new, updated look – launched today. Our aim with this update is to make the website cleaner and more organised with better access to the most important information.

The biggest improvement is the new What’s On pages and widgets, which should make browsing our programming much better.

Our Centenary Storybook project is nearing completion; thank you so much to all who have taken part, in front of the camera and behind the scenes. But we’re still collecting so if you or someone you know has a story to share, either recent or older, young or old, please get in touch. The memories we have collected to date range from stories of Werner Herzog and saving the cinema from closure to special events with the League of Gentlemen and first dates. Our storytellers include past staff, film critic Mark Kermode, cinematographer Clive Tickner and actors Barry Jackson and Sophie Thompson. To watch some of them, click here.

2010 – Ta-da!

After various fundraising events earlier in the year, building work begins in March as part of the Centenary Restoration Project. In June the cinema completely closes for three months. But in September it reopens with a new café-bar and begin celebrating the building’s centenary!
