Hunger Q&A - 17 May 2009
Brendan McFarlane visited The Phoenix for a Q&A following a special screening of Steve McQueen's outstanding film Hunger. Brendan was the leader of republican political prisoners in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh prison during the 1981 hunger strikes. He succeeded Bobby Sands in this role when he commenced a hunger strike on 1 March. In 1983 he was one of the key people involved in a mass jail escape, when 38 republican prisoners broke out of what was the highest security jail in Western Europe . Recaptured in 1986, he spent over 20 years in jail until his release in 1998. A strong participant in the development of the peace process, he currently works for Sinn Fein and is a vocal supporter of the current political direction.

Mike Leigh - April 2008
Film director Mike Leigh has been a great supporter of the Phoenix for many years and is also one of our patrons. Mike visited us in April 2008 for a Q&A following a screening of his film "Happy-Go-Lucky".
Nicolas Roeg - March 2008
Director Nic Roeg participated in a talk with writer Richard Kelly following a double bill screening of his films "Bad Timing" and "The Man Who Fell to Earth" in March 2008. Ken Loach - December 2007
Ken came to the cinema in December 2007 to discuss his film 'It's a Free World'. We were delighted that Ken agreed to become a Patron of the cinema, his Patronage was formally announced at this screening.

The League of Gentlemen - July 2007
All four of the league came to the cinema again for a screening of their Christmas special and the horror-spoof 'A Theatre of Blood', starring Vincent Price.
