Monday 1st September - Henry Blofeld: An Evening With Blowers

Journalist, cricketer, broadcaster and author Henry Blofeld is visiting the Phoenix to introduce a premiere screening and launch of the new DVD of his live show. More details here.

Sunday 7th September - Poetry Event with Fleur Adcock, plus a screening of Henry V

The Phoenix is pleased to welcome poet Fleur Adcock who will be reading selections of her work and introducing one of her favourite films, Henry V.

Sunday 21st September - Pandora's Box, plus live piano accompaniment

The Phoenix is the oldest continually operating cinema in the country and is presenting classic silent films across 2008 with live musical accompaniment.  Live music transforms and enchances the silent picture experience and this screening of the Louise Brooks' classic Pandora's Box will be accompanied by acclaimed pianist Stephen Horne.  The film will be preceded by an introductory talk by film historian Gerry Turvey.

The Phoenix Gallery

The cinema provides a small, informal gallery space to enable local artists to show their work in an appreciative environment. We display a broad range of work in the gallery, from students to more established local artists.

The gallery space is run by Amanda Smith, who has studied fine art at Byam Shaw School of Art. For further information please contact Amanda through the cinema on 020 8444 6789 or at art@phoenixcinema.co.uk. Please note that Amanda does not work full-time at the Phoenix.
