Stephen Frears Q&A launches new Phoenix

Posted by cassie on 27th August 2010

We’re very excited to announce that our first screening in the newly restored building will be the highly anticipated film ‘Tamara Drewe’ followed by a Q&A with director Stephen Frears 10 September at 6.15pm.

One of the most prolific British directors, Frears has made his reputation with films as diverse as ‘My Beautiful Laundrette’, ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ and ‘The Queen’. With ‘Tamara Drewe’ he casts his gaze on the English middle classes and the resulting portrait is not a flattering one, despite the pastoral setting and ravishing lead actors.

Momentum Pictures have generously agreed to donate all ticket sales to the Centenary Restoration Project.

Tickets are now on sale for £9 / £6 concessions. Read more about the film and book tickets on the event page.

Great to have you back in action and looking absolutely stunning. The outside is terrific and the inside will be just as good (can you not afford new furniture in the new cafe upstairs – or is this deliberately meant to be retro mismatch? If so, I dont think it works!)Congratulations to you all on getting it ready between my leaving for work and coming home again – you must be exhausted but happy. Stephen Frears was wonderfuly modest and the film just right for the opening. The flowers looked great too!
