East Finchley Festival
Hi there. I’m Ellie, the Film Education Officer for the Phoenix Cinema. If you are a regular family visitor you probably know me from Kids Club. I thought I’d take a break from the usual building updates and report from the East Finchley Festival last Sunday.
It started bright and early in the morning. We had the stall set up and ready to go by 12noon. It was a little unusual as we didn’t have a film programme to promote, so instead we used the opportunity to talk to locals about our reopening in September. It was a fun, busy day with staff and trustees working hard to keep the word out about the cinema.
Myself and Duty Manager Amanda got creative and facepainted all day. Even Gareth, one of our esteemed Trustees, allowed me to paint a bright red Phoenix on his arm. It was also a perfect opportunity to remind families that Kids Club will be back in September, with a very special archive screening!
Many thanks to Maurita Van Droogenbroeck for the photography.
Sadly, the East Finchley Festival will be one of the last activities I’ll lead for the Phoenix, as I’m leaving to take up a Film Archiving MA in September. I’ve had a fantastic couple of years at the cinema, and if the build continues on time I’ll be at the Kids Club reopening to say my goodbyes!
