The work rages on
Hello,
First an apology. I’ve been so busy trying to ensure the project is going well and finishing off the last of the fundraising that I’ve not had chance to blog for a few weeks. I’m grateful to Jodi for keeping the photographs updated so you can see what’s been happening.
It’s been a really exciting and busy time for us. The builders, Durkan, have been on site for seven weeks now. So we’re almost a third of the way through the work.
Here’s a quick list of what’s happened so far:
- Brick work on the south and east elevations have been repointed. They look beautiful, like new walls.
- The space that will become the cafe has been created, with internal walls knocked down and door ways created onto what will be the new terrace.
- New roofs have been contructed on the top floor over what was voids, this ensures the new office will be water tight.
- Lots of electrical work including the first wiring for the new fire alarm, the new lighting on the art-deco panels and the circuits for the new kitchen.
- The North parapet has been extensively repaired, it was in quite poor condition and another hard winter could have made it dangerous.
- The North wall has had its bumps smoothed out and is almost ready for a new layer of insulated render to be fixed to it. This will increase the efficiency of the building.
We’re now preparing for when the building closes in 3 weeks time. We have a great line up of films for the final weekend. Details of will be here and on our main website soon.
