Apologies for the lack of recent updates. I’d been snagged by a technical problem that was blocking pre-scheduled posts.*
To try and amend things, I’ve got a bumper collection of images here.
A view through the rubble-lined space that will become the cafe.
The new cafe space in progress.
A view looking through the new cafe space. The wall partitions will be completely destroyed, allowing the whole space to work as one room.
The front of the cinema, from the point where the balcony will be. A portion of the wall is marked in red pen, in preparation for it being removed from the building in order to form a doorway.
The above doorways were cut through with a diamond tipped saw. It’s extremely noisy and messy when it’s cutting, but it managed to makes holes in our building pretty effectively.
A diamond-tipped aw slices through the side of The Phoenix. This will carve out the doorways that lead from the cafe space to the balcony.
The fully cleared cafe space starts to become apparent. Once the back wall is fully demolished and the cinema closes, work on the interior sections can begin, extending the floorspace further.
This view of the front of the cinema shows the fully cleared doorways that will lead out onto the balcony.
The interior of the in-progress cafe space. There are many rough edges still to be polished off as the project moves on.
The cement in the rear wall of The Phoenix is ground out, making room for freshening up work on the exterior.
Workers grind out the old cement on the rear wall. To save on scaffolding costs, a scissor lift was used to reach high areas.
A labourer fills the spaces between bricks with fresh cement. This not only strengthens and increases the lifespan of the wall, it also makes it look a lot nicer.
For other WordPress users who are having this issue, theĀ Missed Schedule plugin from Ariel Bustillos fixes it nicely.
